Framed: 47 1/5 × 36 3/10 × 2 7/10 in | 120 × 92.2 × 6.8 cm. Created during Invader's 2007 Bad Men period, when the artist was developing his landmark RubikCubist portrait series. Working exclusively with unaltered Rubik's Cubes as a fixed 54-colour palette, Invader translated recognisable cinematic imagery into a rigid modular grid — a body of work that remains among the most sought-after in his practice. The work is unique, hand signed and dated, and presented in the artist's bespoke Perspex box. Exhibition history under review. Invader
Invader (b. 1969, France) is among the most consequential figures in contemporary urban art. Since 1998 he has installed more than 4,000 ceramic-tile mosaics across 80-plus cities, treating the world as a single, mapped game board. His studio practice extends the pixel logic of those street works into two distinct bodies: Aliases, framed mosaic works derived from the invasion program, and Rubikcubism, large-scale portraits and appropriations built from unaltered Rubik's Cubes. The artist has never revealed his identity, and every studio work is registered and certified through his own authentication process — a discipline that has made his market unusually clean for the street-art sector.
