Verification methodology

What we check, and what it means.

Rare Form publishes only the diligence that has actually been completed on a work. Where a check has not been carried out, it is absent from the listing rather than implied.

Rare Form verified

A work carries the Rare Form Verified designation only when every applicable check below has been completed.

  • Seller identity verified
The legal identity of the selling party has been reviewed against government-issued documentation.
  • Ownership documentation reviewed
Invoices, receipts or transfer records evidencing the seller's title to the work have been supplied and reviewed.
  • Provenance reviewed
The recorded ownership chain has been examined for internal consistency and against available public records.
  • Condition report completed
A condition report has been prepared by Rare Form or an approved conservator and is available to the acquiring collector.
  • Authentication documentation reviewed
Certificates or authentication issued by an estate, foundation or recognised authority have been supplied and reviewed for consistency.

Document review is not authentication. Reviewing certificates, provenance or ownership records establishes that the paperwork supplied is present and internally consistent — it does not itself constitute attribution or independent authentication unless Rare Form expressly states that an independent authority has confirmed the work.

The transaction
  • Who is selling
Every work states whether it is offered by Rare Form, a gallery, or a private consignor.
  • Payment
Funds are held and released to the seller only after the collector confirms the work as described.
  • Shipping
Crated, insured transit arranged with specialist art shippers. Condition photography is recorded before dispatch.
  • If something is wrong
Discrepancies are reviewed by the Rare Form desk with access to documents, messages and shipment records on both sides.
Market information

Market context published on a work is drawn from recorded public sale results. Where reliable data does not exist, the metric is omitted rather than estimated. Historical information is context, not a prediction of future value, and nothing on Rare Form constitutes investment advice.
